Health First Network sponsors Physician Education Seminar

May 15, 2007

On Friday, May 4, 2007, Health First Network sponsored a highly successful Physician Education Seminar titled, "Managing Chronic Pain: Clinical, Ethical and Lawful Solutions". The workshop was held at the newly opened Andrews Institute Conference Center in Gulf Breeze. This program reached over 60 physicians, ARNP's, RN's, and other licensed healthcare professionals with up-to-date information on current recommended treatments and practices for managing the patient with moderate to severe chronic pain. Co-sponsors for the event included the Medical Education Council of Pensacola, the Emerald Coast Health Alliance from Fort Walton Beach, and the local Agency for HealthCare Administration.
The seminar focused on the practical management of drug-seeking patients with an emphasis on recognizing and documenting legitimate pain, adequately treating that pain, while effectively and safely prescribing for these patients. Additionally, the seminar touched on positive, collaborative working relationships between the physician and the pharmacist and presented law enforcement perspectives on drug issues to assist physicians in protecting themselves and their practices. Guidelines were presented to clinicians to eliminate the fear of delivering/prescribing adequate pain relief to patients with severe chronic pain while reducing liability-related issues.
The feedback received from the program evaluations was very positive and included high praise for the seminar presenters/speakers and multi-disciplinary panel discussion at the conclusion of the seminar.
A tour of the Andrews Institute followed the seminar.
