Serving Those Who Served to Protect Us: Health First Network staff assist with Stand Down Day 2012

October 26, 2012

On Friday, October 26, 2012, Health First Network staff joined forces with the VA Medical Staff and with other volunteers and numerous local community agencies to partner with the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System as they hosted a Homeless Veteran Stand Down Day 2012, at the Joint Ambulatory Care Center on Veterans Way in Pensacola.

A Stand Down Event is a cooperative event between the Veterans Administration, local military and Veteran Organizations, and community organizations to provide resources, services and information to local homeless Veterans and the families of Veterans.

This year’s event provided health screenings and exams, immunizations, housing assistance, reading material, social services and ID paperwork assistance, comfort kits, showers, haircuts and massages, legal assistance, sleeping bags, clothing, cold weather pants, coats, sweaters, jackets and gloves, undergarments, shoes and supplies, breakfast and a hot meal for lunch.

All HFNI staff members who volunteered at the event felt it was an honor to participate.
